What provisions are made if you want to join and you have small children? Or is it even an option since if you were killed in battle, the children would be left without parents.
What happens when people already enlisted are both in active duty and become pregnant? Do they just drop out and have to take turns in their duties so one parent is always with the kids?
How old is too old to join the services?
If you are serving and your spouse who is with your kids dies, what happens so the kids can have the remaining parent around to raise them?
I know this is a lot of questions, but I need some educated information here. Your time is greatly appreciated
Ok, typically if you are the sole guardian of your children you would not be permitted to join. There are cases of a single parent signing over custody to a relative for long enough to get through initial training and then regaining custody but I don't know if those scenarios are still permitted.
If one becomes a single parent (by any scenario) while in the service or two military members are married w/ children, they are required to maintain adequate plans for that childs care in the event of deployment, long hours, etc. This includes day to day childcare and long term care, such as with a relative. Having a child is generally a good justification to be granted an early discharge however it is not required as long as the parent can responsibly handle things.
Last I checked 35 was the cut off age for initial enlistment. This is extended if you have any type of federal work experience that is creditable towards retirement on a year for year basis up to 40 I believe.
Your best bet of course is to talk to several recruiters, give them your specifics and see what they say. I say several because in a lot of cases there are waivers and such, but it depends on how hard the recruiter feels like working, so don't take no for an answer right off the bat.
