My Dad's House is haunted.
At least one person has died there as the result of a construction accident. I believe this was the 40's.
The house dates back to 1880's, so possibly many have died there.
It is close to several unusual rock formations and our local town was an Indian American City before the white man came.
Both myself and my family have seen several ghosts/apparitions of various types, on multiple occasions.
The property has several unusual natural features: Three Streams, a natural pure water stream that produces 80 gallons of water a minute, a large bluff with the foundation of a farm house from 1910s.
The property has multiple buildings. Two Cabins, Several Garages, a Pony Barn, Peacock house, A Chauffer's Apartment above the garage (now rented out, we ain't that rich.)
Also our fireplace as well as several other objects have mysterious origins:
- The Fireplace was taken from an old Chicago mansion circa 1850's
- The Player Piano, which has a nickel slot, was built in 1904 and probably came from a saloon.
- The Spiral Staircase, came from the Black Horse Bar, which used to be a brothel when the staircase was installed.
- A Gothic Styled Chandelier found on the property and repaired probably came from a church.
- A fence, which has been removed from the property is obviously a cemetery style and we were told by the previous owners that that was where it came from. Although this predates their occupancy.
- A Civil War Cauldron was found on the property.
- There are over 20 stained glass windows. and many more in storage.
- There are tombstone like rocks in the woods behind one of the garages. Two huge stone slabs have faces of angels.
- The house has had 4 large additions. It was originally on stilts with an enormous porch. Because of this many windows are now wall mirrors. There are some very strange "reflection issues". This could explain some of the sightings. Although many didn't occur near the mirrors. The mirrors just add to the spookiness.
- There are several abnormally thick walls and evidence of a sealed off room (we can't risk destroying the house to break the wall and see, but we peeked by drilling a hole-it supports a kitchen and chimney that were added later, but not by us). There is definitely a "large space" like a room)
- Their is a chimney in the middle of the woods. Probably from an older building.
- Several buildings originally part of the property have been torn down over 60 years ago. One was a woman's lodge for the wives.
- Secret passages, and compartments EVERYWHERE. I found several, no one new about, just a few years ago.
The ghosts include:
- An old man with a beard (4 independent sightings)
- a young Victorian girl (2 sightings)
- A vaporous snake form in the woods
- A ghost cat
- various will o'the wisps and shadow people.
Everyone that comes there, though impressed by the property always ask if it is haunted, unprompted, and why the strange layouts and all the mirrors and windows.
We are metaphysicists and do not invite exorcism or "Ghost Hunters" as we believe ghosts have habitation rights and are mostly harmless, just creepy to some.
We occasionally smudge, but more to alleviate our own negative energies.
Many odd artifacts mentioned above are easily explained. The owner, two steps prior to us, was President of the Historical Society for over 40 years. He took some of their unwanted collection as well as his own.
That doesn't mean we know where exactly they came from. Or that they aren't pocessions or former properties of the ghosts.
Near the property is Minnesota's most haunted location, St. Mary's Heffron (sp?) Hall. Often the only MN listing in ghost books.
There are stone piles in the woods, like the Blair Witch Project. BUT this is the easiest to explain as farmers would pile stones from the nearby fields in the woods near by.
