I have a theory that I have worked on for a long time. It is an expansion on other's theories. I study a form of creation studies called dispensationalism. I believe that evolution and creation have facts but are heavily mis-interpreted by both sides. Let me give you a biblical perspective with the physical properties of how our solar system came to be, in my opinion.
First of all the bible never said that God created this earth and the universe in 6 days. The book of Genesis wrote by Moses who was raised by Egyptians had to learn the Hebrew history of creation later in his life. The first chapter of Genesis is actually a children's song.
As most children's songs it is basic and not very informative. It is not an exact chronicle of what happened. For example we are assuming the serpent was Satan that tempted Eve.
Yet if that is true than he must have fell before then which means somewhere in the 6 days or shortly after he must have fallen from heaven. The problem is Isaiah says that when Lucifer fell he made the earth desolate, took prisoners and so forth. Obviously this did not happen during the 6 days of creation or just before Eve's temptation. So there must be massive amounts of timelines missing. The original Hebrew has two words used in talking about the first chapter of Genesis.
One is called Bara used in Genesis 1:1. It means created new or original for the first time. However in relation to the 6 days of "fixing" things the word is Asah or to renew what was once there.
That is why God ordered Adam and animals to multiply and REPLENISH the earth. There was an age long before Adam that had people and animals on this planet.
To further explain this we need to go to Psalms. It describes an event in earth's history not known anytime between now and Adam's time.
It says that God himself came to earth and found there was no man nor bird, he became angry and he caused the seas to boil, the hills to melt as wax, the earth to become black and all perished. Now the indications are that God expected to see man and animals here but there was none, at least none of his creations. What was here evidently defeated them. So God destroyed all that was here. So this is the point were Genesis 1:2 starts. God moved upon the face of the deep.
He caused one land mass to come out of the water which scientist call Pangaea the supercontinent. This continent later divded as told in the bible in the days of Peleg. So here is my theory of what happened. God created the earth beautiful and perfect. He deposited man and animals here. However Lucifer was not allowed to advance to a position he wanted. In his pride to show his ability he created his own animals to which we call dinosaurs. Over myriads of time they eventually defeated man and what animals were here. There is a passage in the bible that is very obscure that may indicate that God had visited while man was still here during that age.
It says that God slew great creatures to give as meat to man. Now that indicates that people were not able to defeat these creatures and also the people were starving. So when the earth had eventually been depleated of man God realized his creations were gone, he revenged himself upon the earth as mentioned in Psalms and destroyed all that was here.
Scientist do know that something very bad happened to the dinosaurs and know it was probably meteors. They can see that the moon is peppered with impacts so something has happened.
Here is what I believe physically happened. This solar system originally had the sun, earth and it's moon. I believe it had other planets like mars and possible others that are now Jupiter's moons. But also there was a very large planet as well.
A protostar passed into our solar system and crashed into this planet. The planet was crushed into asteroids which became the asteroid belt.
