Many people have a 'few' lipomas (myself included). Obviously, 200 surgically removed lipomas is a lot.
I am going to discuss some 'theoretical' biochemistry here. I do not know if it is involved with your problem, but I believe it potentially could be. Also, there is a very good chance your doctors know nothing about the issues I will be discussing.
A lot of toxic conditions can disrupt and/or damage the function of a group of 'receptors' in the body that regulate and control lipid (fat) metabolism/biochemistry. These receptors are called 'PPARs' (Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptors). The abbreviation is pronounced "Pee-Pars". (For fun, ask your doc what he knows about "PPARs" - I bet he won't know what you are talking about! - but there are thousands of research papers on these receptors in the medical research literature.)
PPARs act as the body's 'sensors' for the many different types of fats in the body. They are 'activated' and then regulate gene function and the production of necessary enzymes to properly process, store, modify or 'burn' the fats in the body.
Many chemicals, toxins, etc. can damage or interfere with the function of PPARs. PCBs (found in all humans), phthalates (plasticizers in all forms of plastic that have been found at very high levels in humans in govt. studies) and heavy metals (lead, mercury, cadmium, arsenic, etc. - often found at toxic levels in humans) are a few examples.
Trans fats and essential fatty acid Deficiencies can also disrupt the function of PPARs.
These are just of few of the possibilities. If I had your problem, I would get tested for all of these issues. However, your doctor will likely not have the training or knowledge to help you.
You may need to find one of the following types of doctors to assist you with finding the cause of your problem:
Naturopathic Physician, Chiropractor that specializes in Nutrition/Environmental medicine, a medical doctor board certified in Environmental medicine or a medical doctor/Naturopath/Chiropractor who specializes in Functional medicine (you can find these docs at the website for the Institute of Functional Medicine - just do a web search for that name).
I realize I have given you some different and challenging information. I hope it will be helpful to you. You can learn more about PPARs by searching the medical literature at Pubmed (Medline).
I also would like to recommend an excellent book that explains many of these issues and how to deal with them by Sherry Rogers, M.D. - she is a specialist in environmental medicine and biochemistry, has 35 years of clinical experience and teaches other doctors these principles. The book has the gruesome title: "Detoxify Or Die". But it contains serious information about the types of problems I have discussed here.
