If I went to college nearby I'd still live on campus and have my own life for the most part but still see old friends, family, etc. Or is it better to go away for college and start all over?
It's a matter of personal preference.
If you want to go away for the experience or to a particular college away from home then you should go for it.
On the other hand if it really doesn't matter, some colleges closer to home can be less expensive.
Either way you're starting a new journey and hopefully you'll get the most out of it.
