Is "La Llorona" real?

I am from Guatemala. The legend of La Llorona around here is very extended, it reaches all countries in Central America. But I´m telling you from where I belong because the versions of the story may vary from Guatemala to Panama. In here, La Llorona not only cries and screams, she´s an advisor, a signal, a prediction.

This is a personal story... Believe me, it´s true.

I wouldn´t play or lie with the ending of it...

I was fourteen. Since that age I was used to go to bed around eleven-eleven thirty, depending on what was in the TV. But I don´t quite know, that particular night I was in the kitchen.

It was later than often. Around 00:40. I felt terribly cold, even with my thicker pijamas, and I remember having a cookie in my hand, that´s why I went to the kitchen. I was walking to my bedroom.

Only one light was turned on, the one at the end of the garage. And walking very slowly, I can´t remember why... when in an instant I HEARD THE MOST GRUESOME SCREAM IN MY WHOLE LIFE!!, I thought it was some girl being assaulted or something else, I don´t know, I´ve continued walking when ANOTHER SCREAM COMES BY, THIS TIME LOUDER!!, she was not calling anyone, it was like a very panful moaning, but in the form of a scream. Damn, I went to my room scared but I didn´t recall it was the legend character. That day was technically Friday.

9 and so... I woke up. I remembered there was no milk in the fridge so I went to my mom´s bedroom to grab a bill and buy some. I opened the door of the house and...

There were like three neighbors in their doors, on my side of the street; a preacher with his wife, some nephews (including Freddie, Mario and Carlos who where friends) and Mrs. Julia, the owner of our house in that time. Across the street many people were outside too. They were talking very loud, very concerned, I don´t know...

When in that moment, I saw Carlos and Renato hugging and coming by with Tulio, one of my best friends in that time with his face covered by his hands, screaming, shouting, moaning, crying very loudy. I didn´t guessed anything at that moment, when I asked Renato what was wrong... "Tulio´s dad, Mr. Marco, died in the very morning, a heart attack, come with us".

I realized then if the screams of last night and this terrible notice were related, and I came closer to the kids that lived in front of my house, and I´ve started talking with them, Gustavo and Augusto... Augusto told me that he could hearded something very strange at that time in the night, but he was practically asleep, so he didn´t put any attention, then I told them my version; this is it.

We will never know what was the scream, we´ve just let it pass. La Llorona, the Advisor, tolded everyone who was awake that night about the departure of Mr. Marco, or it was just a coincidence. We will never know...
