There is NO meaning of life.
This is a typical 'human' question, with a religious, metaphysical or morale sign.
let's take, for example, the answers given until now:
"The meaning of life is to be able to say at the end that the world is better off for your having been part of it."
How do define "better"??? Do you think some presidents don't think they are doing all they can to make this world a better (safer) place? Even when these people are destroying the planet, they believe, based on their values, they are doing something good (well, it is definitely good for their vice-presidents, but that's another story). Also, who do you think you are to determine if the world is a better place just because you passed by it? Our lives (average 75 years) are less than a second if put into perspective with the Earth's age... we are less relevant than a mosquito (individually, because as a group, humans are going to destroy the planet, which is also irrelevant, because there's no 'superior' being that would care about humans disappearing - as nobody cared when the dodos (a bird) disappeared).
"Well with most species it is to live to reproduce and continue your species... But I don't think that's what God has in mind."
Of course this answer is ironical (good) when mentioning god, but also establishes that the meaning of life is to reproduce... While you can find a lot of pleasure in the process, defining it as the "meaning" shows you have the intention of finding a "plan" or a "mission"... and I think this is a metaphysical approach. But I tend to find the fight for food and reproduction as the main motors of everything that is alive (not the meaning of life, though).
"in a religious way, to pray for God..."
No comments. Obviously a human/intellectual/metaphysical approach to the question. God is an intellectual invention of men.
since men are conscious animals, they have the magical thinking that there must be a reason to be here. There is no 'reason'. If you think there is one, you would be accepting that there is a 'meaning', and then you would be having a religious position.
