Most places you don't need a special education.
The ability to multi task and good personal skills are a big plus.
I have been a dispatcher for 18mo now.
I would recommended that you look on the internet to find out how your area is serviced.
Mine is a consolidated agency meaning that we dispatch for all police, fire and medical for the entire county, basically we do everything for around 17 agencies.
You can ask at you local police department but if you are in a large urban area chances area the dispatchers are at another location.
