I'm an 8 month pregnant mother of a seven year old boy and five year old girl. I'm 27 years old and engaged to be married to my son's father who is an engineer. We've been together for a little over 8 years and he is supportive of anything I want to do.
Why not combine the two? A peds nurse.
You can get your RN and go for a specialty like ultrasound tech (it's a simple 1yr degree after nursing school) and you can make up to $30.00/hour.
My Mom was a peds nurse (LPN) for 17 years before she got her Ultrasound certificate. She went from making $15.00/hr to $27.00/literally overnight. That was 10 years ago.
It may be more than $30.00/hr now.
The advantage to being a nurse rather than a Dr. is that a nurse is pretty much freelance.
If she is good enough, she can work in private practice, hospitals, medflight, etc. and not have to worry about all of the "headaches" of a doctor's internship etc. (Nurses generally intern where they work, so they get max benefits quicker).
They don't have to open an office, pay salaries, carry insurance etc.
You can even be a nurse practicioner with very little additional training from an RN. I live in a rural community where just about every town has at least one Nurse Pract.
You can check out the bureau of Labor statistics website (www.bls.gov) to check out how much each career pays in your area for however much education you want to achieve.
