Altay Mountains or Altai Mountains are located in Central Asia where Russia, China, Mongolia, Kazakistan meet.
It is the source of Irtysh, Ob and Yenisie rivers.
The name, in Turkic Alytau or Altay, means Al (gold), tau (mount); in Mongolian Altain-ula, the "Mountains of Gold".
The range is also known as the Ek-tagh, Mongolian Altai, Great Altai and Southern Altai.
