I'm a 16 year old student from Turkey and I don't know what to do in order to go to a university abroad. The universities can be these or something else.
- Harvard University
- Princeton University
- Stanford University
- Columbia University
- Brown University
- Duke University
- Cornell University
- Oxford University
- University of Pennsylvania
Thank you.
if you want to study at an American university the first thing you need to do is go to the university website. find the link to ADMISSIONS and there you will find information on the admission requirements for FOREIGN STUDENTS or INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS.
Normally the process is as follows:
- apply to the university (send the application along with the TRANSCRIPTS, or records from the university in your country.) (of course, if you do not have any college credit from your country then this does not apply to you)
- normally in order to get accepted you have to provide evidence that you will be able to pay for your school costs as well as pay for medical insurance while you are attending school. This is normally done by filling out a form that will also be in the Foreign Students Admission section along with tax papers from your parents or from whoever is going to pay for your tuition that shows that they make enough money to pay.
- you will also need to take the TOEFL exam. this exam can be taken in your home country. it measures your ability to read, write and speak English. Once you take this test you will also send the results to the school. most schools have a minimum grade in order to be accepted (get information on where to take this test by going to the TOEFL website.)
- Once you get accepted the university will mail you a letter of admission which you will use in your country when you go to the United States consulate in order to apply for an F1 VISA (which is a student Visa for foreign students)
That is pretty much all you need. there might be some special requirements depending on the university but overall this is the process. Try to go to the websites and get information for yourself because i might be forgetting something.
